Fashion Show at Route 66 Casino (Sept. 22, 2018)

Fashion show stories and script created by Lorna Azevedo.  The event report and photos by Mark Wing

The Tin Lizzies of Albuquerque held a fashion show the afternoon of September 22, 2018 at the Route 66 RV Resort (part of the Route 66 Casino and less than 20 minutes from downtown Albuquerque). This event was due to the success and positive feedback of the show staged in Albuquerque in May 2017.  Tin Lizzie member Janice Gauna had asked that Lorna Azevedo develop a similar show at the Route 66 RV Resort for the entertainment portion at the closing banquet for the 2018 Good Sam Rally for New Mexico. “The Good Sam Club is an international organization of recreational vehicle owners and the largest organization of RV owners in the world. It is focused upon making RVing safer and more enjoyable, and to save members money through club-endorsed benefits and services.” There were approximately 200 people at this rally from all over New Mexico!  The Tin Lizzies had 25 participants organizing and modeling clothing at this event.  Lorna was the “master-of-ceremonies” and had developed a script for the show that was both informative and humorous.  The clothing and accessories ranged from the early 1900’s through the late 1940’s with 43 examples of individuals or groups modeling clothes representative of the time period.  The show clearly showed how tastes in fashion evolved over the decades and was influenced by factors such as availability of materials, economics, comfort, and the prevailing morality of the time.  The clothes were primarily from Lorna’s personal vintage clothing collection with some of the club members providing their own clothing, supporting props, and accessories.

The hour-long show was a huge success with great appreciation shown to the clothing models and supporting club members.  Lorna received well-deserved praise for having created the show and also for her roll as the presenter/narrator.  When the fashion show was over, the Tin Lizzies joined the Good Sam Club members for a delicious BBQ dinner!

Thank you to Janice for coordinating this event with the Good Sam Club; to the Route 66 Casino for providing the venue; to Lorna for organizing, developing, and providing the clothing for the fashion show; and to all the other club members and friends that modeled or contributed to the success of this highly-entertaining event!
