Work Party at Larry’s Garage (Sept. 7th, 2013)

Larry decided that the previous week’s take-apart car practice was enough to ensure a lively demonstration at the State Fair.  Over-practicing would likely take some of the fun and spontaneity out of the event!  A special guest for this work party was Mark, grandson of Tin Lizzie members Dave and Anne Merewether.  Mark will be relocating to the Albuquerque area, having just graduated from graduate school, and will be working at Sandia National Laboratories.  We hope that Mark joins our club!

On this Saturday, Mark Wing was assisted by Bob Ross and Dave Ferro in continuing disassembly of the transmission of his 1925 touring car.  After the assembly was taken apart, the magnets, retainers, and flywheel were cleaned and the flywheel is now ready to have it’s triple gear pins removed and replaced.  Larry and Bob Hawk continued setup for milling the hardened valve seats for the touring car.  Mark also worked on a Ruckstell axle housing destined for the same car.

Don Mitchell had purchased a set of Model A wheels from fellow club member John Hayne and, with the assistance of master welder Bob Ross, was repairing the cracks and filling the holes. After welding, Larry milled down the welds and drilled the six hole patterned needed for the adaptor plates.

Paul and Marilyn Duncan were installing a new speedometer on their 1920 touring car.  They had been looking for an original speedometer in good working order, but it proved to be difficult to find one.  The new one, from the Model T Ranch, works well and even has an odometer!

Thank you Larry and all the volunteers who so graciously donate your time and expertise!
