Holiday Parade and Party (Dec. 7th, 2013)

On Saturday, December 7th, the Tin Lizzies met at the Azevedo’s residence in the late afternoon to decorate our cars for the annual holiday parade and party.  This year the weather was exceptionally cold, in the upper 20’s, so we had a modest turnout of five Model Ts.  Participating in the parade were the O’Brien’s with their 1916 touring car, the Sturdevants, with daughter Lea at the wheel of the Azevedo’s 1912 touring car, the Petersons in “Buster” their 1924 coupe, the Wings in their 1925 coupe, and the Azevedos in their 1923 truck.  The cold and dark conditions also resulted in fewer parade spectators.  After driving, honking, and waving in the parade, it was back to the warmth of the Azevedo’s spacious barn for a fantastic Italian food themed potluck dinner that was very well attended.

This holiday party was also a tribute to our late club President, Dean Van Doren.  Dean had just been re-elected to his third consecutive term when he passed away from natural causes on November 25th.  The club celebrated Dean’s exceptional life and recognized his major contributions to the success and spirit of the club.  Dean’s sense of humor, generosity, leadership will be sorely missed by our club.

The annual holiday dinner is also the venue for installation of the new year’s club officers.  Everyone had a wonderful time in large part to the event organizers:  Bernice Young, Pat Willan, Fran Gurule, Mary Ann O’Brien, and Lorna Azevedo.
