Story and photos by Mark Wing (unless otherwise noted)
This 4th of July was the second time that we did something different than in previous years. Last year, there was no parade or picnic due to the COVID pandemic and the whole country was in lockdown. This year, COVID restrictions in New Mexico had lifted enough for us to gather without masks, but the Village of Corrales didn’t have the time, or in the interest of being cautious, didn’t hold their traditional 4th of July parade. In the spirit of the 4th of July, some picnic participants drove their collector cars around Corrales in groups or independently.
Larry and Lorna Azevedo graciously offered to host the traditional picnic that usually followed the parade. Their beautiful home in Corrales, NM (on the west side of the Rio Grande) is on two acres of green lawns, trees, and buildings. The Azevedos had invited the Tin Lizzies; the Pocos Quatros (Little Fours), the local Model A club; and the Early V8 Club. Larry and Lorna provided hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks, and guests brought side dishes and deserts. Everyone had a wonderful time meeting in person again as we emerge from the COVID lockdown restrictions. The food was great and the Azevedo’s home was perfect for this event.
Thank you Larry and Lorna for your hospitality!
