Work Day at Larry’s Garage (Dec. 17, 2022)

Story and Photos by Paul R. Duncan

We have been having a cold spell recently with nighttime temperatures in 10-200 F. range and daytime to low 40’s. Andy Andrews trailered his new T.  purchase down for Larry to go over. He found this nicely restored 1917 Coupe advertised in the Vintage Ford by Jim Sanford in Babson Park, Florida.(see pictures) The cars bio stated it was purchased in 1927 by person living in Buena Vista, CO and stayed in the family until 2000 time period when it was sold to Jim Sanford. He did a lot of work including a Model A crank, Z head, Model A carburetor and intake and exhaust manifolds, water pump, 12 volt system with Bosch distributor and with 1940’s Ford generator. The car was featured as a participant in a coast to coast Model T run at some point.  It check out well with minor adjustments. Andy said he thought he might sell his 1924 but has reconsidered and since both cars running well and since he so much enjoys working with our club her in Albuquerque.

Jim Glover brought Austin Pisani with him and they worked on Jim’s engine restoration. Austin has his T still on the East Coast. Joe Warren stopped by to enjoy the Model T work. Mark Wing was working on a group of beautifully restored 1913 era KW coils and coil box. Mark has done the restoration and has learned to heat up the roofing asphalt with a heat gun.

Dave Ferro was working on the transmission for his Montana  500  racer.

Paul Duncan had the steering column for the Valencia High School T and added a new top to the coil box. The top did not have a hole for the set screw and with Larry’s assistance the hole was drilled and tapped with a 6-32. The metal steering gear to frame bracket needs bushings.

Larry was supervising and also working on his timing projects.
