Abuelita’s New Mexican Kitchen on Isleta Blvd. Southwest is one of our favorite breakfast choices. It turns out that it is only a few blocks from John Criswell’s home on Louise Ave. Southwest where he has lived since 1972. It is also a few blocks from the Gutierrez-Hubbell HouseHistory and Cultural Center. ( www.gutierrezhubbellhouse.org )
Twelve Tin Lizzies and six members of the Rainbow Roadrunners car club gathered at 9:30 at Abuelita’s for a fine breakfast. John Criswell is a member of both clubs and following breakfast we drove a few blocks north for a tour of Gutierrez-Hubbell House site. Tim O’Brien brought his 1923 firetruck, the only T, and noted it has both a Worford and Ruckstell and is able to keep up with other T’s. We found the tour given by a young historical intern added new information and learned that the Gutierrez-Hubbell House is on the El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Trail.
The group then drove a few miles to John’s home at 1902 Louise Ave. SE. John taught shop in middle school for twelve years and following that was a general contractor. He has a 1926 Model T Touring car which was previously featured in a 2023 workday report. Larry identified his coils showed burned contacts suggesting a high voltage at some time. It was suggested he put on a distributor. Ice cream was served.
