The first Sunday of the New Mexico State Fair is always designated as “Vintage Cars and Classic Tractor Show”; this year was no different. The weather was perfect for a day at the fair and talking Model T’s.
Once again, we gathered at the parking lot on Lynn and California around 7:30 am to parade into the Fairgrounds at 7:55 am. This year we had 14 Model T’s which included 2 Fire Engines (courtesy of the O’Brien Families).
After driving into the fairgrounds and parking along Avenue of the Governors, we set up the various stanchions, chains and displays. Several of us wandered down to the local spot for breakfast burritos (which never disappoint). Most of us stayed with the cars and spent the day talking with folks about the Model T’s, but some of wandered off to look at the displays, view livestock or even watch the seal show.
At exactly 3 pm we were escorted down the Avenue of the Governors to the exit gate, being escorted by the New Mexico State Police. We were fortunate that they even blocked traffic for us to safely get out onto the main road. We then went back to the staging area to load cars back onto trailers; or headed home if cars were drove to the staging area. All in all, it was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday.
Thanks for all who brought your cars.
