The Tin Lizzies annual light parade and Holiday Party for 2014 fell this year on Saturday, December 6th. As they have for several years, Larry (our 2014 Club President and recent Rosenthal Award winner) and Lorna Azevedo graciously offered their home and huge barn as the meeting place before the Corrales Light Parade and venue for the holiday party.
Club members began arriving around 4PM to decorate their cars and help prepare for the feast to come. Close to 5PM, all the parade participants moved on to the staging area on Corrales Road, that also doubles as the location of the growers market in the warm weather months. The weather was unseasonably warm and comfortable in the low 50’s. Our Model T’s were well received and we returned to the Azevedo’s barn after the parade.
Sharon Dominguez had organized the holiday party and it was decided to cater the event this year as opposed to a potluck. Sharon ordered the BBQ from the Whole Hog Cafe on Montgomery Blvd. The food was fantastic with choices of beef, pork, and chicken BBQ as well as cole slaw, beans, potato and green salads, and pies and cakes for desert.
After everyone was finished, Larry introduced the current club officers as well as the newly elected ones. Mark Dominguez is the 2015 Tin Lizzie President, Stan Gauna is the Vice President, Ann Merewether will continue as the Secretary, Marilyn Duncan is the Treasurer. Board members include Paul Duncan, Kirk Peterson, and Mark Wing.
Larry also announced his choice for the “President’s Award”. This year’s recipient is Orlando Ortega, of Portales, NM, who, with his wife Melody and son Ethan, organized our two most recent major tours to Portales/Clovis and to Tucumcari, NM. Orlando has worked tirelessly to organize these successful tours and the President’s Award was very well deserved! As Orlando and Melody couldn’t attend the party, Ethan, who lives in Corrales, accepted the award for his father.
After Larry’s presentations, Mark Dominguez announced upcoming events and that Sharon (Mark’s wife, and Mike Housholder (a long-time Club member) had just graduated from Central New Mexico Community College (CNM). Congratulations to you both for the wonderful accomplishment!
Our thanks to Larry and Lorna for their constant and generous support for our club and Sharon Dominguez for her excellent work in organizing this year’s party!
