Story and photos by Mark Wing
Vern and Pat Willan graciously hosted the Tin Lizzies club brunch for August at their beautiful home in Sandia Park, a community on the east side of the Sandia Mountains. The weather was clear and perfect for the approximate 40 minute drive from the Albuquerque City limits. Five Model Ts were driven to the event including the Azevedos’ in their 1925 red speedster, the O’Briens in their 1916 touring car, Mark and Sharon Dominguez in their 1927 touring car, Don and Barbara Mitchell in their 1927 Tudor, and Mark Wing and Dave Ferro arriving in Mark’s late 1924 coupe. Vern and Pat prepared a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, pastries, fruit, and drinks. Club members enjoyed the delightful brunch on the north-facing patio, with stunning views of the Sandia Mountains and surrounding rolling hills.
After everyone had finished eating, Vern gave a tour of his well-equipped garage/workshop where he stores his car collection. A recent project included buying a small propane-fueled forge to make knives. He hilariously recounted how much work and fuel it took to fashion those knife blades!
Vern and Pat – thank you so much for a delicious and memorable day at your wonderful home on the east side of the Sandia Mountains!
