Car Show at Rich Ford Edgewood (Aug. 18, 2019)

Story and photos by Mark Wing

Long-time Tin Lizzie club member Linda Riel coordinated our car show at the Rich Ford car dealership in Edgewood, NM, (a community approx. 23 miles east of Albuquerque). Rich Ford Edgewood was celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and their celebration includes events such as cars shows on the weekends where various Ford car clubs like the Mustang Club, Model A Club, and our Model T Club are invited to participate.

The day started with most of our cars meeting at a Sprouts parking lot near the mouth of Tijeras Canyon (off of Central Ave. and part of Old Route 66). Four of our cars were driven there, while four others were trailered. We departed in a caravan a little after 9AM and took the scenic drive along Old Route 66 that roughly parallels east-west Interstate 40.

Once we made it Rich Ford Edgewood, we were met by three other members who bought their cars directly to the dealership. We enjoyed a leisurely day socializing and enjoying the hot dogs and soda provided by the dealership. Dennis Snyder, president of the Rich Ford dealerships, dropped by to visit with us.

The only drama on this summer’s day was during the drive home where we found that Old Route 66 was blocked off due to a motorcycle/car crash resulting in a fatality. The road was going to be closed for a few hours and it caused our club and the Model A club to scramble to find alternative routes home.

Thank you to Linda Riel for organizing this event for our club as well as to the Dennis Snyder and the folks at Rich Ford Edgewood for their hospitality!
