Car Show at Rich Ford Edgewood (Aug. 21, 2021)

Story and photos by Mark Wing (unless otherwise noted)

Linda Riel organized the Tin Lizzies participation the annual car show at Rich Ford Edgewood. The show was canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it was on again for 2021. This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the dealership located in Edgewood, a community located a half-hour drive from Albuquerque via Old Route 66 that parallels Interstate 40. The club members in the Albuquerque area met after the breakfast at Mark and Susan Wing’s house, at a grocery store parking lot at the mouth of Tijeras Canyon. Other car show participants, who already live east of Albuquerque met us at the dealership. Mark Wing’s 1925 touring car was experiencing a lack of power as we started the assent into the canyon. Mark and Sharon Dominguez generously offered to remove their 1927 touring car from their enclosed trailer and haul Mark Wing’s car in the trailer. Mark Dominguez drove his touring car the rest of the way. The problem was discovered while parked at Rich Ford – the cotter pin was missing holding the timing rod to the pivot point on the commutator. With the timing rod no longer connected, the commutator was stuck in a position that was fine for idling, but too retarded a setting for faster driving! The 1925 touring drove great on the drive home once a new cotter pin was installed.

At previous Tin Lizzies meetings, it was proposed and voted on unanimously that Dennis Snyder, the President of Rich Ford Albuquerque and Edgewood, be recognized for all of the support that he’s given our club for so many years. At this, their 22nd anniversary of the Edgewood dealership, Tin Lizzies President Paul Duncan honored Dennis with a lifetime membership to our club!

Participating in this car show were Mark and Sharon Dominguez with their 1927 touring car, Don Mitchell with his 1927 Tudor, Paul and Nancy Musgrave with his 1926 roadster, Stan and Janice Gauna with their 1917 depot hack, Paul and Marilyn Duncan with their 1927 pickup, Larry Jones with his Rajo head 1918 runabout, Paul Beck with his 1918 truck (a car bought new by his grandfather), and Mark Wing with his 1925 touring.

It was a nice car show and an opportunity for club members to socialize and talk with interested visitors. Marilyn Duncan, our club’s membership coordinator, signed up new members Chris and his son Ben to our club! We look forward to their participation in future club activities.

Thank you to Linda Riel for organizing this event and also to Dennis Snyder and the fine folks at the Rich Ford Edgewood dealership for inviting us to their anniversary celebrations!
