On Saturday, December 7th, the Tin Lizzies of Albuquerque participated in the Corrales annual Starlight Parade. Corrales, NM is a Village west of the Rio Grande and adjacent to Albuquerque. This small community is located on a former pueblo complex that pre-dates the arrival of the Spanish Colonists who settled in the area in the late 1500’s. The Village of Corrales prides itself on it’s agricultural roots, it’s verdant and pastoral setting, and it’s small-town feel. For many years, Corrales has held both 4th of July and holiday parades.
In keeping with a long-standing tradition, Larry and Lorna Azevedo invited Tin Lizzie members to their Corrales home in the late afternoon to decorate their Model T’s before the parade and for the potluck later. This day, six of our Model T’s participated in the events.
After decorating our cars we all drove to the staging area just off of Corrales Road to await our turn to enter the parade. Joining us for the first time were Nicki Pilcher and her friend Hope McNeil. Nicki and Hope rode in Larry’s rustic and very original 1923 Model T truck. The turnout of spectators was noticeably lower than in previous years, but this could be attributable to Albuquerque and some other surrounding communities having parades on the same evening.
After the parade, we returned to the Azevedo’s “Big Barn” where we enjoyed a potluck dinner surrounded by their car collection. Thank you Larry and Lorna for organizing and hosting this enjoyable and magical holiday event!
