Silver City Tour, Day-1 (June 3, 2015)

Day 1 – Wednesday, June 3, 2015

Sunny skies prevailed as we traveled to Silver City pulling trailers from Santa Fe, Los Ranchos, Albuquerque, Portales, Las Cruces and Sandia Park. The host hotel was the Palace on Broadway in Silver City; overflow was the Murray Hotel just across the street. We started with 13 cars and 24 people, three of whom were new members.  These new members had only recently acquired their Model T’s and started this tour as inexperienced Tin Lizzie drivers!

Travel distance to Silver City from Albuquerque was 290 miles through Hatch, NM.  The Palace Hotel started its life in 1880 as a bank and shops. The building has been added on to, restored, and subjected to multiple renovations, resulting in the configuration we see today of Victorian rooms upstairs with a parlor both downstairs and upstairs. The rest of the downstairs remain as shops, with guest rooms only on the second floor. The Murray Hotel was built in 1938 and expanded in 1949 while retaining the style of the late 30’s.   Across the street from The Palace was the Little Toad Brewery which served as our “let’s hear more of what we are doing” and let’s “happy Hour”. The service here was outstanding, as was the food and drink. What a great way to start our tour!  Before we disbanded for the evening, Larry gave us our instructions for meeting the next morning and direction sheets.
