T ‘n Vittles at the Owl Cafe (Jul. 8, 2023)

The T n’Vittles breakfast for Saturday July 8th was hosted by Mark and Susan Wing at the Owl Café.  The Owl Café, located at 800 Eubank Blvd., Albuquerque is a 1950’s themed diner whose main architectural feature is the head of an owl incorporated into the building that’s lit with neon lights at nighttime.  The diner is keeping the Old Route 66 feeling alive with its 1950 diner interior with vinyl bar stools, stainless steel, and dining booths.  The café is a popular place for hot rods and other clubs to have a good meal and to show off their cars.  The Tin Lizzies have eaten there before but hadn’t been there in quite a while.

The owner of the Owl Café, Ski Martin, was delighted to see our 5 Model Ts at breakfast that morning.  These included the Wing’s 1925 touring car, the Dominguez’s 1927 touring, Don Mitchell’s 1927 Tudor, the Duncan’s 1927 pickup, and the Azevedo’s driving their grandson Cole’s 1927 touring.

In addition to the five Model T’s, 17 club members were in attendance. The Owl Café staff had set aside a private enclosed patio area for our use.  After a delicious and leisurely breakfast, 10 of us began the 17.5-mile climb to the east side of the Sandia Mountains for a visit to Tinkertown Museum in Sandia Park, NM.  Our thanks go out to Ski Martin and his staff for a wonderful breakfast experience at the Albuquerque landmark – the Owl Café!
