Eighteen Tin Lizzies joined in to celebrate fall at Mick’s Chili Fix. Linda Riel and Jeff Richards were hosts. Jeff says he will soon be back working on his T’s. Longtime members Ken Carpenter and daughter Kassi came and we were glad to see them as Ken had let his membership lapse. It turns out he suffered a neck fracture this spring and had been out of work. Kassi is a junior at Sandia High School. Ken says he will rejoin for 2022. We had 5 T’s: Don Mitchell with his 1917 Tudor; Mark and Sharon Dominguez came in their recent purchase-Sharon’s father Clarence Schritter’s 1925 Tudor which had been sold to Tony and Patti Schroeder in Portales after Clarence’s death in 2014. Tony, due to a medical condition, can no longer drive the T so they sold back to the Dominguez’s. They now have an enclosed winter T. A win-win for everyone. Marilyn and I learned to drive on that T with Clarence as our instructor. Paul and Marilyn Duncan drove their 1927 Roadster pickup. Dave Ferro brought his 1918 Depot Hack which was recently on the cover of the Enchantment Flyer’s September/October 2021 edition. Larry and Lorna Azevedo came in their 1923 Plumber’s Truck. Larry said he bought the truck years ago from a plumber in the heights who had the truck but it wasn’t used in his business. The truck originally came from Illinois and has a wood body with some metal components. He rebuilt the engine and the drive train. This is his winter car. He has recently returned from a MTFCA board meeting in Indiana. He and Lorna had a whirlwind trip to Kansas City where Lorna visited her daughter Allison Berglund Larry and his grandson Cole Wedekind drove to Richmond, Indiana. Larry drove nearly 3000 miles in a week.
Elizabeth Lake, a new member this year, came. Mark Wing did not come with a Model T as after breakfast he was heading to his newly purchased work space in the heights. He has recently completed an epoxy floor covering in the space and is having the insulation values increased. He now has a place close to home where he can work and store his myriad of parts he has collected over the years. Mark is becoming a real maven in our hobby of Model T restoration.
Betty Householder has been visiting her daughter Kim at Conchas Lake. Betty still has her 1923 Coupe for sale. This car is well known in our club and is in good running condition. Vaughn Rockafellow enjoyed the Las Vegas tour and was pleased to see his photographs published in the recent Enchantment Flyer. Neil O’Brien was sporting a ball cap which was captioned with-”Ancient Firefighter”. He was pleased he and Mary Ann could join son Tim and wife Amy at the State Fair with each of their restored fire trucks. Rita Loy Simmons said she missed the Las Vegas tour because of pressing real estate business. She still has her realtors license and is currently selling her brother’s home which she has rented for many years. She has not taken any untoward falls this year!!
