By Mark Wing
At this work day we were joined by Larry and Lorna’s grandson Derek, visiting from Arizona. Derek just graduated from high school and will begin studying computer science in college next term. Larry set Derek to work on his Montana 500 project car that will be competing in 2022. Derek was wire brushing magneto magnets and was helping to balance the flywheel.
Dave Ferro’s 1924 Model T touring car front axle had loose spindles and in need of new bronze bushings. During disassembly, Dave found the threads were stripped on the lower kingpin holes. Larry and Dave decided that the best solution was to drill out the stripped threads and install helicoils using the Bridgeport mill. Mark Wing brought a rusty timing gear cover plate from his 1915 engine for wire brushing.
Don Neidigk continued work on his 1926 coupe restoration project. He’s been meticulously stripping the paint on all his wheels and finishing the spokes in varnish. Don found that some of his hub bolts were in poor condition and needed to be replaced. He also prepared and painted a rear drum so he could continue his wheel restoration at home.
Thanks Larry for another productive work day!
