Work Day at Larry’s Garage (Nov. 19, 2022)

Story and Photos by Paul R. Duncan

Jim Glover, Mark Wing, Larry Azevedo, Lorna Azevedo,  Phil Lance, Jessica Lance, Roman Chavez and Paul Duncan attended. Jim worked on his engine rebuild and also on a replacement pan he had acquired. Paul tuned two new coils he recently received from the Coil Man Ron Patterson. Mark Wing was working on a 1910 running board.

The main project for the day was Jessica Lance’s 1927 Tudor. She had won the car in December 2020 at the auction of Don Lauritsen’s T. (see story in the November-December 2020 in story titled Lauritsen Family ’26 Tudor Sedan)  Phil has started the engine but the car doesn’t seem to have much power and he was concerned there was a problem with the bands. The Lances brought the T to Larry’s with their trailer and it was pushed into the shop.

The engine started but it ran rough. Larry and Jessica took it for a test drive.   We determined that the timer was worn, wires on the wiring harness were old and possibly shorting and the coils were not performing well. We replaced the timer with a roller timer from the club stock and a new wiring harness from Larry’s stock. Larry and Jessica rebuilt all 4 coils with new points and Jessica adjusted with Larry’s assistance.  Paul, Phil and Roman changed out the timers.

The car started after the new elements were replaced and it ran much better on a second test drive.   We noted the magneto was not wired to the switch and the switch appears to need work. We think with additional new wiring,  a cleaning of the switch and a functioning magneto that Jessica will be able to run this year in the Corrales winter parade.

Since COVID-19 intervened, one of the goals of the Saturday workdays was to get more T’s on the road. Today that goal was accomplished.
