Every year, the Tin Lizzies of Albuquerque display Model Ts at the New Mexico State Fair. This year we’re scheduled for Sunday (Sept. 15th) and our appearance will include a take-apart car demonstration. The club’s take-apart car belongs to Larry, and is a 1925 runabout that he keeps just for this purpose. Larry wanted the volunteers to practice taking apart and reassembling the runabout before the real event in front of all the spectators. Larry also wanted to test out a new tripod he had created to improve the efficiency of engine removal and installation. The take-apart car practice went very well as there were a lot of volunteers there that day and everyone is anxious to see if it’s possible to break the previous sub-seven minute record!
Neil O’Brien was machining axle parts for his 1920 Luverne fire truck. The truck had stripped gears and Neil had located replacement parts that needed modifications to work for his application. Neil hopes to have the fire truck up and running soon.
Don Mitchell brought a set of wire wheels in need of repair. These were a set of Model A wheels that had cracks and a hole pattern that isn’t suitable for the Model T adaptor plates that Don had purchased. Don wanted the wheels to be assessed by Bob Ross, master welder, to discuss the feasibility and approach for their repair.
Joining the regulars at his first work party was Bob Jackson, who just joined the club and MTFCA; and guest Mark Jacobs (a neighbor of Mark Wing, Doug Rappuhn, and Bob in the Albuquerque foothills) who was recently introduced to Model Ts.
Thank you Larry for organizing this practice session. The upcoming State Fair car show should be a lot of fun!
