Work Party at Larry’s Garage (July 6th, 2013)

This work party followed the one of the previous weekend and was just two days after the annual 4th of July parade in Corrales and picnic at the Azevedos.

Work continued on Tom’s engine with the rod caps being faced and bored to the correct diameter. Bob Hawk and Larry continued to make progress on boring Mark’s 1925 touring engine to accomodate the larger diameter valve guides and hardened valve seats. This is the first time that Larry had tried this on his milling machine. To accomplish it, a special boring guide rod, just large enough in diameter to fit in the oversized valve guide holes had to be made. Larry as an extensive assortment of rod stock in sizes graduated in 0.001″ increments. He found the correct diameter rod stock and fashioned his own boring guide. It worked very well and Bob Hawk later returned to machining Mark’s block, freeing Larry up to check on the other projects active that day.

Paul brought a set of coils to test and he also wanted to clean his spark plugs.

Kirk was assisted by Vernon to replace a fan belt and install an outside magneto post oil line.

Larry and Lorna’s son-in-law (Luke) was in town from Missouri and had an opportunity to continue work on his speedster. It should be super fast when it’s complete!
