Work Party at Larry’s Garage (Nov. 23, 2013)

Joining the work party regulars on this cold and overcast Saturday was new member Dave Park, and, returning for his second work party, was Davinder whom we all met on a recent tour to the east mountains.  Larry first showed everyone the floating hub system that he’s been making for his grandson Cole’s 1927 touring car project.  Larry designed the system and machined all the parts.  As Dave and Davinder are new to the Model T world, Larry showed them the components that make up the transmission and the function of each part.

Work continued on the transmission for Mark’s 1925 touring car.  Bob completed the boring of the block to receive the hardened valve seats.  After Bob was done with the milling, Larry had a special tool to introduce the valve seats perpendicular to the valve stems.  Gerald was helping Mark replace the brass bushings in the transmission drums.  A few of the bushings had to be bored out on the lathe as they couldn’t be pressed out.  Once the bushings were installed, they were honed out to mate perfectly with the corresponding shafts.

The Duncan’s 1920 touring car is making good progress.  The engine, brakes, wheels, and upholstery have all been sorted out and the car runs beautifully.  The last major task is adding the top irons, bows, and top.  At this work party, the Duncans were fitting the top bows to the top irons and cutting them to length.

Thank you Larry for a great work party!
