Story and Photos by Paul Duncan
I didn’t arrive with any project but I was pleased to see a group of Tin Lizzies there when I arrived around 10 AM Saturday. The sun was shining but it was cold and all work was going on inside. New member Dario Ibarra was leaving when I came. He had a suggestion for another high school shop program that might be interested on working on a Model T. He will send it on to President Mark Dominguez. Dave Ferro was working on the pan for his Montana 500 engine rebuild. Dave is going to enter the Montana 500 with the 1924 Touring T he purchased from Orlando Ortega a few years ago. Orlando then purchased a Model A Roadster which he toured with us in 2021 in Las Vegas, NM. Larry was assisting and working at his timer table. His Montana 500 T was in the garage bay. Frank Lewark and Leonard Scarborough were up from Socorro to work on the “hog’s head” for Leonard’s 1926 T which they have not worked on since 1019 pre-COVID-19. Leonard is contemplating retiring for the second time to finish numerous projects. Mark Wing brought the oldest Model T block in New Mexico to put in new valves. The engine block number is # 8143 which by the McCalley reference shows a casting date of August 2, 1909. In the picture of the block note the open valve in contrast to the usual view with the plate over this area of the engine. Leonard Scarborough and Frank Lewark are rebuilding the hog’s head.
