Workday at Larry’s Garage (Feb. 3, 2024)

Story and Photos by Paul and Marilyn Duncan

The main project on the agenda was the Shriners TT Firetruck. The TT had run in the Corrales parade on December 4, 2021 but the current Shriner crew could not get it running. The 12 volt battery turned the Bendix with good force but there was no spark. Larry identified a short in the distributor points which was traced to misalignment of the insulator element. The coil was also replaced. There was no suction at the carburetor and the cylinders were dry. The float needle valve was sticking in the Holley NH carburetor and was replaced. The valve cover plate was removed and we could observe at least three intake valves sticking. Kroil was applied and over time the valves began working properly. The engine started and the carburetor adjusted for smooth operation. The TT was backed out of the garage and drove up on the new Shriner TT trailer.

Tin Lizzies participating were: Larry Azevedo, Dave Ferro, Mark Dominguez, Mark Wing, Paul Duncan, Marilyn Duncan, Joe Vandenberg (Shriner), Tracy Brannen (Shriner and new member) and Jay Draper (Shriner and new member), Tim Heer and Sean Hughes. Stan, Janice Gauna and Vern Willan were busy completing the inventory.  Mark Wing also was cleaning recent triple gear and transmission shaft purchases.
