Story and Pictures by Don Neidigk
It was a slim but dedicated crowd that showed up for the December 21 Tin Lizzies workday. (Slim refers to the number of participants, not their size.) Present were Scott Stewart who has been working on some wheels, Don Neidigk, Larry Azevedo, Kirk Peterson, Dave Ferro, and Kinzie, club mascot, who took an interest in everything.
Buster, Kirk Peterson’s coupe, somehow got his transmission triple gears frozen up. This necessitated pulling the engine, repairing the effected parts, and reinstalling the engine. Tim O’Brien and Dave Ferro carefully measured the location of the front engine mount insuring exact placement. Later, Tim and Kirk crawled under the car to connect things up. Larry Azevedo did the heavy lifting with Dave.
Earlier, Larry had done some machine work on Don Neidigk’s Ruckstell axle and installed a new bronze bushing. Larry instructed Don on how to use a measuring tool to cut steel pins to hold the large washers in place on the differential. With the pins cut and filed, Larry drove them into place where they perfectly held the intended parts. Work on Don’s Ruckstell is on hold till after the holidays. Parts from the current axle on Arty, Don’s ’27 coupe, will be reused to rebuild the Ruckstell.
While all the heavy lifting was going on with Kirk’s coupe, Don stayed out of the way and did what he was best at, praying and eating donuts.
