Workday at Larry’s Garage (Jan. 8, 2022)

Story and photos by Paul Duncan.

The work day started around 10 am. Jim Glover brought a 1925 T engine he had purchased from Coerte Vorhees’s movie company. The T chassis had been modified for the movie’s plan to drag the car across the Chama River at Abiquiu.  Jim plans to use another chassis in his planned restoration. The engine was disassembled with difficulty being met in the pulling of the basket in the brake drum. Paul Duncan had six metal brackets manufactured by The Cleveland Hardware Company, Cleveland, Ohio in the “teens” for a wooden pickup bed used in that  era. The 3/8 bolts on the bracket were rusted and the old bolts were cut off and new ones welded on by Larry. Frank Lewark is getting Larry’s 1941 Mercury ready to start which he is buying.

Larry continues to work on his Montana 500 Roadster project. Art Gebeau and Mark Dominguez started the process of removing the body from the chassis. Later in the day we all assisted in lifting the body up on the lift. He plans to rebuild the front axle, rewire, wire brush the chassis and paint worn areas.
