Story and Photos by Paul Duncan
There was a new twist for today. Frank Lewark’s chickens have been working overtime and he graciously brought eggs to be distributed.
Don Neidick was able to take his 1927 Coupe Arty back home with a new working Ruckstell. Larry had completed the Ruckstell foot shifter this past week (pictured). He was accompanied by his son Nathan and niece Elli.
Scott Stewart is building a Model T hill climber and was shortening the drive shaft. He removed the drive shaft pinon gear with Angel Peña’s help (pictured).
Dave Ferro’s Holly NH carburetor appears to have a sticking float needle valve. The Viton rubber-tipped needle valve was indeed sticking and it was replaced with an all metal needle valve. This has been observed before that some of the newer rubber-tipped needle valves are not as good.
Mark Wing brought 4 stock T crankshafts for evaluation. The crankshafts were placed in the lathe by Mark and Jeff Richards and the journals are checked for wear and if the shaft is not straight Larry has developed a technique to straighten it, and he demonstrated. All of the shafts were in good shape and can be taken to Empire for grinding the journals.
Frank Lewark purchased Kirk Peterson’s 4:1 rebuilt differential with a full set of wood demountable wheels for his 1915 T project. Kirk Peterson worked on the hanger for Buster’s tailpipe. Longtime member Vernon Armstrong stopped by to visit and pay his dues. It was good to see him as he has not been active for the past few years. Dario Ibarra also visited. Lucien Peña came with his father.
The weather was beautiful and things are warming up. Paul and Marilyn Duncan came by as well. Paul took pictures for the website and reviewed with Larry the arrival of the Valencia High School T to Larry’s garage on Tuesday March 4. The students will come during the next week(week of March 10) for work sessions. We plan to get the T running and back to the high school.
