Coronado
Monument Tour to Bernalillo, New Mexico
On Saturday, September 11th, 13 T's
gathered at the Lowes parking lot in Albuquerque to begin a 12 mile tour to the Coronado State
Monument in nearby Bernalillo. Jahn and Barbara Wright and Stan and Janice Gauna did an
outstanding job organizing the event that included a leisurely tour along a scenic
road running parallel to the north-south railroad tracks to Coronado, New Mexico's first state monument
established in 1940 that commemorated Francisco Vasquez de Coronado's 400th anniversary entry into New
Mexico. The Monument is most notable as a archeological site with ruins of the Kuaua Pueblo
settled around 1300 and in use until it was abandoned in the 1500's.
In honor of the fallen of
September 11th, Barbara Mitchell suggested that the T's be patriotically decorated as the Club does
for 4th of July celebrations.
