2011 Christmas Parade and Holiday Party

The Tin Lizzies 2011 parade in Corrales and holiday party started at around 4:00 at Larry and Lorna's house where club members dropped off food for the potluck and decorated their T's for the parade.  Among the ten Model T's that participated in the parade were the Azevedo's 1923 truck, the O'Brien's Luverne fire truck and their 1916 touring car (driven by Tim), the Dominguez's 1927 touring, Dean and Linda in her 1926 Fordor, the Gauna's 1917 depot hack, the Dilts' 1923 coupe, the Wing's 1925 coupe, the Ross' 1926 roadster, and the Azevedo's 1912 touring driven by Kirk.  The T's were decorated with tinsel and lights in preparation for the very dark and almost moonless night parade.  The parade route was a drive southward on Corrales Road with the street lined with people of all ages who dared brave the cold December temperatures.  The Tin Lizzies delighted the croud with their light display and the blare of vintage horns.  Especially memorable was the sound of a locomotive whistle coming from the O'Brien's Luverne fire truck!  After the parade, everyone headed back to the Azevedo's for the feast to begin!

The Azevedo's spacious barn was beautifully decorated and the food was fantastic!  Linda had coordinated with Club members to make sure there was a wide-range of dishes at the potluck.  Everyone enjoyed the entre's, side dishes, and delicious deserts.  Of special note was Club members Dave and Dani King who had traveled all the way from Salt Lake City to join in the fun!  Also making an appearance for the first time since a falling accident was Barbara Mitchell.  While she was recouperating, Don continued to attend Club functions and had kept the Club members apprised of Barbara's status.  Everyone was so happy to see her up and around again!

After everyone had eaten, Tin Lizzies President Dean presented an award to Mark and Susan Wing for their contributions to the Club in 2011.  The presentation was followed by a special treat of Lorna doing a very humorous skit in the guise of "Ernestine", the Lilly Tomlin telephone operator character, reciting a Chistmas list to Santa for "naughty" Club members.  The list, which Lorna and Larry and compiled during their long drives to California, was hilarious!

After Lorna's Ernestine performance, Bernice Young presented Larry and Lorna with a gift of a shirt and a bonnet for their generosity in helping so many members of the Club and providing the space, tools, and expertise for the work parties.

Mark Dominguez officiated at the swearing-in of the 2012 Club officers and Board of Directors.  At the last club meeting, the Club had voted to retain the existing officers and board.  Following the Club tradition, the oath of office was made with the official Model T Service manual as the symbol of allegiance!

The entire evening was a lot of fun and went very smoothly due to outstanding organization, party volunteers, Larry and Lorna for so graciously offering their great barn as a venue for the event, and the generous spirit of the Club members who brought so many wonderful things to share!

A special note of thanks to Bernice, Fran, and Julie for helping set up the Barn ahead of time on Thursday, and to Vaughn for making two trips to haul tables.  On Saturday, Dean and Linda, Bernice, and Kirk and Susan came to help with the set up.  Thanks also to the many people who showed up before the parade and stayed late on Saturday (many of whom also helped on Sunday), to assist with the cleanup including Kirk and Susan, Stan and Janice, Mary Ann and Neil, and Russell.

Thanks again for volunteering!
