2010 Christmas Parade & Holiday Party

By Barbara Wright

On December 4th the Tin Lizzies enjoyed a Holiday Party and Christmas Parade - our annual social gathering with lots of events. Our hosts in the village of Corrales were Larry and Lorna and we thank them for their graciousness in opening their home to 49 or more guests from the club. Their house was beautiful, a Model T pickup was decorated and lit up in the front yard, stringed lights around the barn and in the barn, luminaries lining the path from barn to house, table decorations provided by Bernice, and food for after the parade provided by the members. A listing of our multiple activities for this evening:

First - the lighted Corrales parade. Cars and their drivers or families showed up before 4pm to decorate trees, Mrs. Claus, and assorted other decorations. The cars left in parade fashion as Larry and Lorna led them to the staging ground. Several members without rides walked over to the main street to oo and ah but the darkness was not too good to get pictures of the parade. Some riders even threw candy to parade watchers along the way. The parade even started on time this year.

Second - After the parade, a New Mexico-themed potluck was held in Larry and Lorna's barn.  We had so much food no one went hungry and there were even take away containers. We had assorted appetizers with New Mexican flavors, salads, tacos and fillings, Spanish rice, pinto beans, posole, green chili turkey enchiladas, beef enchiladas. The dessert table had pies, cookies and biscochitos. Plenty of space in the barn so some even danced!

Third - Awards presentation: Dean gave Past President Award to Nancy. Nancy gave Presidents Award for Outstanding Service to the Club to Stan and Janice.

Fourth - Installation of Officers and Directors, officiated by senior Tin Lizzies member Clarence and the Model T Service Manual. With a lot of comments by new board members and chuckling by members the task was finally completed. Nancy was asked as Immediate Past President to continue with board as a non-elected, non-voting member even though that is proposed in new bylaws and new bylaws will not be voted on until February. The newly installed officers and directors agreed to have Nancy continue in her new role and so she was installed as well.

Fifth - Dean will accept or decline our volunteers at the January meeting.

Sixth - Larry offered the storage of several of the Model T's until the following day when they can be picked up during the daylight.

So we had multiple activities for one evening and it was a great evening with members, guests and families including several children who hopefully will be wanting to drive Model T's in the future.

Thanks again to Larry and Lorna, Linda Riel for overseeing the foods brought for the potluck and Roadrunner collections, Bernice for the beautiful table decorations, the food crew and the clean up crew and all the members.

What a wonderful party in a very spectacular barn!
