ROUGH RIDER TOUR TO LAS VEGAS, NM

HOTEL INFORMATION

We will be staying at the Plaza Hotel (on the Plaza)! The rates are $78 single, $88 double occupancy. Check in is 3PM..Check out is 11AM.

Call the hotel to make reservations at 800-328-1882 or 505-425-3591...be sure to refer to the Tin Lizzies of Albuquerque to get our special rates!

Cancellation Policy is to call 24 hrs prior to the day of arrival by 3:00PM

All rooms come with complimentary hot breakfast each morning in the Landmark Grill downstairs off the main lobby.

There is high speed internet throughout the hotel, & a complimentary computer located in the lobby.

There are no refrigerators in the rooms. Check out the Plaza Hotel website for the amenities. You can add a frig to your room for $10 a night. A microwave is located in the lobby.

The hotel has a restaurant called the Landmark Grill, open 7 days a week, serving breakfast, lunch, & dinner. It also has a saloon, Bryon T’s Saloon, open 7 days a week at 12 noon, full bar, food available till 9PM...music at times...not sure of that schedule.

HOSPITALITY ROOM

We will have a Hospitality Room located on the lower level. This is our room to have our Happy Hours & general "get togethers" during our stay. It’s Salon A. We are purchasing a refrigerator for $10 per night. There is no water, sink, or microwave (one in the lobby) in the hospitality room, so we’ll need to bring ice chests & ice, & plan for our snacks accordingly.

(This room, including the refrigerator, is $45 per night plus tax, & is paid for from our $20 per person registration fee)

INSTRUCTIONS TO HOTEL FROM ALBUQUERQUE

Drive N on I-25. When you get to Las Vegas, take exit 343. Turn L & cross Interstate. Continue on Grand Av Turn L on 7th Av

Continue on 7th ave for 3 blocks L on National. Continue on National Go thru NM Highlands UniversityJust past the bridge, turn R at "Public Parking" sign. Dirt lot on L for trailer parking. You can park there also if you don’t have a trailer.

Plaza Hotel is 1 Block SW of parking lot...a fairly short walk. If you have no trailer, continue on National, & park in front of Hotel or around the Plaza. They patrol the plaza area night & day. There are also some parking spaces behind the hotel. The Police Dept also has a parking lot across from the Plaza that you can use if no trailer.

TOUR INFORMATION: A detailed itinerary for the tour will be provided Thurs evening. A 2012 Guide book for Las Vegas & San Miguel County will be available for us at check-in.

THURSDAY AUG 23

Leave Albuquerque & trailer your car to Las Vegas Go to the Plaza Hotel in downtown Las Vegas. It’s located on the NW corner of the town plaza.

Check in at the Plaza Hotel is 3:00PM

If you are early, you might want to check out the Rough Rider Museum at 727 Grand Ave. It’s open 10AM-4PM Tues thru Sat. (see guide book for any other places you’d like to visit)

Meet at 5:00PM for Happy Hour in Salon A, our hospitality room. If you need more sustenance, you can eat at the hotel or any other restaurant of your choice. (A restaurant guide is provided in your guide book)

FRIDAY AUG 24 (Around 70-75 miles roundtrip)

Leave Las Vegas at 8:00AM to Mora Visit the Alpaca Ranch (fee $5 plus tax each, paid for from your $20 registration fee)

Visit the Tapestry Mill (no fee, but donation accepted)

Head to Pendaries for Lunch. The golf course is providing burgers, chips, & drink for $10 a person. ($10 each is paid for from your $20 registration fee.)

Hotel for Happy Hour...drivers don’t drink, but passengers can "whoop it up"...because..... At dusk, we will caravan to the Drive In Movie at one of the two drive in theatres still in existence in NM. We will use our manifold cookers to have a mouth-watering tail-gate dinner consisting of hot dogs, chips, cookies & drinks. It’s $12 per car load for the movie. (some food is donated ...the rest provided from the registration fee)

SATURDAY AUG 25 (Around 40 miles)

Visit Montezuma Castle & the Dawn Light Sanctuary. We were unable to get a castle tour, but we’ll try to get a picture of our cars in front of the castle. We will check with the guard at the entrance to see if that is possible.

We will then caravan out to the National Wildlife Refuge. We will try to spot some wildlife, even though there has been a drought in the area all year long. Take binoculars, if you like to see if you can spot some wildlife.

We will have lunch on your own (or as a group) in Las Vegas (restaurants in guide book) After lunch we’ll be free to visit the local antique stores & historical sites if you like...(see guide book.)

5:30PM wine tasting in gift shop at the hotel.

6-7PM Happy Hour

7PM Our banquet in the Solarium...If you have antique clothes (or anything that looks of that era), please wear them. The banquet will consist of 2 choices of meat, salad, baked potato, & tea for $25.56 each. this includes tax & tip. (Please pay Kirk on Thurs evening $26 each CASH so he can take care of the bill without a hassle)

Meat choice 1: Chicken Cordon Bleu, which is chicken breast rolled with baked ham & Swiss Cheese, lightly breaded with herbs & spices. Served with a Saffron Mornay Sauce.

Meat choice 2: Roast Beef, which is a tender roast beef topped with Rosemary Brown Gravy.

Dessert in Salon A, (hospitality room) which will be provided by Susan Wing. (Thank you Susan!!!)

Huge wedding same night as our banquet at the hotel, so the place will be jumpin’!DINNER CHOICES You need to make your dinner choice known asap, (at Thurs night lizzie meeting would be fine, or phone/email Lorna or Susan) so we can let the hotel know. If what I have so far isn’t correct, please let us know. So far I have: Willan—2 chickens Azevedo—1 chicken, 1 beef Fran –1 chicken Bernice-1 chicken Peterson-

SUNDAY AUG 26

Breakfast in the hotel

Some may want to travel back 25 miles N to the Junction of NM State 518 & NM State 442 at La Cueva (near the Mora area) to go to the Salman Raspberry Farm & pick raspberries. There is an old roller mill there, & you can visit Salman Ranch Shop, open 9AM-5PM. Some folks will just want to get on the road for home.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BRING!

Snacks & drinks of your choice for the Hospitality room...We will have a refrigerator in the hospitality room, but keep in mind space to keep things cold will be limited. You may also get one for your room if you’d like for $10 a night. The only microwave is located in the lobby. You may also want to bring your own ice chest & ice to keep items cold.

Clipboard FM Radio ...so you can hear the movie at the drive in

Rain gear Bug spray Sun Block Hat/umbrella/jacket

Vintage clothing (or clothing that looks vintage) for Sat night banquet

Chairs (optional)

Binoculars (to see birds at Wildlife Sanctuary)

Name Tags

Camera Neck scarf to wear around your neck after soaking them in cold water.. (we gave them out on the Grants Tour.)

We have lots of bottled water & can sodas left from the March meeting, but bring more if you like.

Plates & utensils & napkins will be provided from left-overs from March meeting. If you think of anything I’ve forgotten, please bring it up at Thurs meeting

MONIES NEEDED:

Please plan to pay to Kirk on Thursday night $26 CASH each for Banquet ...(extra amount goes for the tax on the hospitality room.).

Pay at drive in theatre: $12 for each car load of people (anyone have a trunk?) Driver can divvy up the amount among his/her riders.

Money for your lunch out on the town on Sat.
