Classic Car Garage Visits

By Mark Wing

Paul and Barbara Carpenter hosted the well-attended Tn' Vittles breakfast on Saturday, August 7th, at the El Camino Dining Room on 4th Street.  After a tasty breakfast, Tin Lizzie members were invited to see two fine collections of British and American cars.  Five Model Ts made the uphill drive from the restaurant to the foothills of the Sandia Mountains where Ralph and Bill's garages are located.  Among the T drivers that morning were Skip and Hedy Dunn who trailered their 1914 nickel-plated touring car from Los Alamos.

The two collections include 1915 and 1929 Pierce Arrows, a 1931 Packard roadster and 1930 Model 745 phaeton; a custom 1953 Mulliner-bodied Bentley; a 1936 Bentley convertible; a 1929 Phantom I Springfield (American) Rolls Royce; a 1935 20/25 Rolls Royce Sendanca de Ville; a 1930 Model A sedan and standard coupe; and a 1949 MGTC with original paint, interior, and only 24,000 miles on the odometer.  Ralph and Bill recounted the cars' histories and described some of their unique features.  The tour also included demonstrations of Ralph's stationary engines including a 4 hp Fairbanks Morse engine made in the late 1800s.

Our thanks to Bill and Ralph for graciously opening their garages to our Club!
