Sign Dedication at the Kimo
Theater
On
Friday, June 3rd, ten cars from the Tin Lizzies of Albuquerque participated in the sign dedication for the KiMo
Theater. The original neon sign was erected around 1927 and the event organizers wanted to recreate the
scene as it may have looked in the 1920's. Mayor Barry was on hand to deliver the dedication speech and
the event also included a showing of the Fritz Lang 1927 silent film "Metropolis". This German Expressionist
film is considered to be a great cinematic masterpiece and had recently had 25 minutes of missing footage restored
to it when an almost complete copy of the film, although in poor condition, was found in 2008 in film archives in
Buenos Aries, Argentina. A three-man musical group, Alloy Orchestra (based on the east coast),
performed a musical score they had composed for the film. It was amazing how much music and sound
effects only three people could make!
In
addition to Tin Lizzies, there were Dodges, Model A's, Buick's, and a Pierce Arrow at the
event.
