A Tribute to Tom
Miles
By Bernice Young
I am so
honored to be asked to do this presentation. The program this evening is to honor our
own Tom Miles, who was recently elected to serve as President of the National Model T club of
America. The
Tin Lizzies are so proud that he is a member of our local Tin Lizzies club.
Model T’s have been
an interest of Tom’s since his early youth. He has restored his
T, just recently purchased 3 T‘s, one of which is special to me, and has assisted many others in restoring
theirs. Tom is always ready to help in any way
needed. You can always count on him and he will never
let you down.
Many of our members say Tom doesn’t
know the word
no, It’s always ―I'll do anything I can to help. He has served in most all of the offices of the
Tin Lizzies, serving as
President in 1994-95 and is still a staunch supporter of the
club. He
has been chairman of regional and local tours which promote interest in Model T’s. He has
organized and co-chaired two National MTFCA Business meetings here in Albuquerque. He made a masterpiece of our
annual meeting and copies were sent to several chapters to encourage them to host annual
meetings. He has served for years on the National
Board as Director, Vice President (for several
years) and now will be serving as President and we say he will be the Number 1 Honcho in January.
Tom has gone to Hershey to
help man the MTFCA booth for several years and is always willing to assist in any way to promote the
National Organization. He has helped with the
planning of the Centennial party and has been a valuable liaison with the International T
Club.
Tom initiated the Restoration Videos, and
has filmed, produced and edited all of them. He just returned from Sacramento on Saturday where he was filming one
of them– about 35 hours of
filming that will now be
edited. In this filming process he has contacted each presenter and has spent a great deal of his personal
money to do this, including some of the equipment purchasers. When people from other countries wanted the tapes in
PAL format he offered to convert the tapes for them. When it was necessary to convert to DVDs,
he converted
the earlier tapes to digital. The tapes have been a source of income to the MTFCA and have assisted many in their
restoration problems. As a professional photographer and journalist, Tom has written articles and provided
photos for the Vintage Ford Covers, including , one of which I am very proud of and dearly cherish (Volume 40,
May-June 2005) where Roy, Bernice and the 27 Touring and Ambulance were on the cover. In 2008, at the National
Business Meeting inCalifornia
, Tom was honored to receive the Rosenthal Award which is the highest recognition award from the National
Club.
Tom is a great ambassador for the Club and
hobby of owning
and driving Model T‘s. He is definitely worthy of being our next National
President. Not too many local clubs can say they have a National President in their club, and it makes us
very proud to say Tom is a member of our Tin Lizzies of Albuquerque
.
Tom - we are so proud of you and
honored to have you in our club, to know you as a personal friend, and we are especially proud of your
accomplishments in the National Model T Ford Club of America.
