Work Party at the Azevedo's
Garage
The
first work party project for Saturday, April 23rd was Steve Suttle's 1925 coupe. The car was
originally from Texas where the roads are flat and the distances long. The first owner had a higher
than standard gear ratio installed (13/39 - 13 teeth in the pinion gear and 39 on the ring
gear) for a greater top speed and better gas mileage. Steve found that the higher gear
ratio didn't work well in the constant elevation changes of Albuquerque and wanted to change it back to stock
(11/40). To do this, the Rocky Mountain brakes and drive shaft/differential had to be removed. Before
installing the new gears, all the parts were cleaned and checked by Larry to ensure that they were still within
acceptable tolerances.
