Work Party at the Azevedo's
Garage
The main project at the work party on Saturday, April 30th was to cast babbitt for the rod
bearings for Tim O'Brien's 1923 fire truck. Neil O'Brien prepared the rods by blasting and wire
brushing. Larry demonstrated how to flux the bonding surfaces, pre-heat the rods, melt the babbitt
to the correct temperature, and pour the bearings. With careful preparation, the bearings bonded well to the
rods and were ready for filing and boring.
