Work Party at the Azevedo's
Garage
The
previous work party at the Azevedo's Garage was on September 24th to "clear the shop" in preparation of a new epoxy
floor. With the assistance of around 18 club members, the shop had been cleared in
approximately 2 hours. The following week the epoxy floor system was applied and Larry returned all of the
items that had been removed over a two week period - giving him a chance to organize his
garage/workshop. The results were outstanding! Once cured, the floor had a nice sheen and the
expansion joints, which made it difficult to roll across, were now smoothed
out.
The work party for Saturday, October 22nd was the first opportunity for the Club members to
work in the nice and improved workspace. Bruce Daniel had brought a 21" spare tire with split
rim. The tire had been removed from his 1925 Tudor and was petrified, necessitating that it be cut
off with a saw! John Seawell was continuing his speedster project and was focused on his drive shaft
and differential. Don Mitchell worked on his water pump rebuild with the assistance of Bob Hawk, the
club's newest member and a retired master machinist with Sandia National Laboratories. Mark had begun to
remove parts from his rusty 1925 touring car engine for media blasting and wire brushing.

The work party attendees were treated to a delicious Mexican food lunch of beans, enchaladas,
hominy, rice, cookies, and a wide variety of beverages! Thank you to all the members who contributed to
the lunch including Bernice, Julie, Linda, Janice, and Susan.
Work resumed again after lunch and was punctuated by loud pop! Sadly, the
troublesome split rim was destroyed when tire and innertube were overinflated with the split rim joint
unsecured. Luckily, no one was injured, but it was a valuable lesson on the hazards and danger of split
rims. Bruce will look for replacement split rim and try again!
