We started back toward Grants, & stopped at the
Bandera Caldera & the Ice Cave. There we had lunch that had been cooking on our 4 manifold cookers
as we left El Morro. What a treat! After all that food we ate, many of us took the hike to the
Caldera & then to the Ice Cave. We were very hot & tired when we got to the ice cave, but as we
descended into the cave, we immediately felt the cool air. The temperature in the cave was 31 lovely
degrees & the ice was 200 ft thick. The Indians had used it for a freezer in the early days.
It was such a welcome feeling to cool off before we headed back up to the picnic area.
